Description
This fun and interactive drumming camp is for children from 8 to 12 years of age, designed to introduce them to the fantastic world of rhythm, drumming and percussion.
The camp builds on group dynamics and team work, and it focuses on listening and interaction skills, fundamental elements for playing music together!
Drumming and percussion has always been an essential part of traditional and folkloric music in many cultures throughout the world. Whether we drum with our hands or with sticks, or we use body percussion or day to day objects, rhythm brings us together in a group, where we all play an important part!
The children will learn fundamental hand drumming techniques and sounds. They will learn to apply these in popular rhythms and simple drum patterns, which we’ll play together in a group as parts of one groove. We will also explore body percussion, and how to create rhythms in a group even without using instruments. Through fun rhythm games, they will develop their listening and group interaction skills, and focus on basic music elements, like dynamics, rhythmic subdivision and phrasing.
The drumming camp is tutored by Alan Preims, professional percussionist, composer. Alan has performed as a musician in many live music projects in Ireland and abroad, he has composed music and soundtracks, and he has taught rhythm and percussion in music schools in Galway County and City.
