Lino printing, or linocut, is one of the most popular relief printmaking techniques. In this course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of relief printmaking, from carving your own designs into a linoleum block to producing an edition of prints. You’ll also be introduced to the Chiné Collé technique, which allows you to add extra colour and texture to your work.
Throughout the course, you’ll explore:
-
Carving and tool handling
-
Inking and print registration
-
Hand printing and press printing
-
Paper preparation and handling
-
Chine collé additive technique
We love the meditative aspect of carving and the peaceful rhythm of printing, and we aim to share that with you. Once you’ve learned the techniques, you’ll also discover how easy it is to continue printmaking at home with just a small selection of tools and materials. Elena will guide you with practical tips and demonstrations to support your learning.
Classes take place on Thursday evenings, 7:30–9:30 pm, with small groups to ensure plenty of one-to-one tuition. All tools and materials are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own photographs, sketches, or visual ideas as inspiration for your lino design.
This course is perfect for complete beginners or anyone wishing to refresh their printmaking skills. By the end, you’ll have your own edition of prints and the confidence to continue exploring this rewarding technique at home.
