Éist le Fuaim na hAbhann agus Gheobhaidh tú Breac. Seanfhocal / Irish Proverb Variant 1 (A4)
Part of an ongoing collection of seanfhocail (Irish proverbs), this work is an ode to the Irish language, featuring limited-edition original prints of our favourite proverbs.
The seanfhocal “Éist le fuaim na hAbhann agus gheobhaidh tú breac – Listen to the sound of the river and you will get a trout” was chosen because of our location near the River Corrib in Galway, where the sound of the water and the presence of local fishermen are always close by.
Elena loves the creative process behind this series, which perfectly reflects her sustainable practice where nothing goes to waste. She uses fish shapes for print demonstrations in her screen-printing courses, created with cut-outs. After the courses finish, she continues working on these cut-outs, adding extra layers with accents of colour, before completing each print with the text layer.
This makes the series a variant print edition, marked as V/P on the lower left-hand side.
V/P or E/V – Edition Variable (Édition Variée): Refers to an edition that uses a common plate throughout but introduces additional elements that make each individual print unique.
Variant 1 features metallic blue ink that catches the light beautifully in a V/P edition of 12 prints.
Designed and screen-printed entirely by hand in our studio, this is an original series produced using hand-cut stencils and water-based inks on 300gsm acid-free paper. Each piece is signed and numbered by hand by the artist (and our founder), Elena Santos.
Because of the handmade screen-printing process, each individual print in the series may vary slightly from the images shown.
