Description
Just Art It is delighted to offer a one-day Afrocuban Percussion and Drumming workshop, on Saturday the 24th July. In this intensive workshop we’ll explore the sounds and rhythms which define popular and folkloric Afrocuban styles, like Son or Rumba. You will discover the different drums which have been giving voice to these beautiful rhythms, from their roots in Africa, all the way to contemporary Cuba. And we’ll explore the concept of ‘Clave’ – rhythmic keys which are fundamental to the understanding of these amazingly complex rhythms.
This workshop is suitable for anyone who would like to expand their drumming and rhythm skills, exploring the fundamentals of Cuban rhythms and percussion. All instruments are provided.
DATE: Saturday 24th July 2021
TIMES: 11am until 5pm ( one hour lunch break at 1pm)
TUTOR: The workshop is taught by Alan Preims, professional percussionist and composer, in our beautiful music studio right next to Just Art It. Alan has been playing on Irish and international stages for many years, and he has taught percussion and drums in music schools and national schools in Galway City and County. Alan has studied Afrocuban percussion with great master drummers, including Giovanni Imparato in Italy, and Tomas ‘El Panga’ Ramos Ortiz in Cuba.
